Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about ABA therapy, insurance, and getting started with Tall Grass ABA.
Many Iowa families pay little to nothing out of pocket, though some plans have a copay. We're currently in-network with Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and work with other commercial plans, with Iowa Medicaid coming soon. We verify your benefits and tell you exactly what you'll owe — before therapy starts. No surprises, no hidden fees.
Fast — we don't believe in long waitlists. Once your insurance is verified, most families start within a couple of weeks. Every month on a waitlist is a month of progress your child doesn't get back, so we move quickly.
We work with children and teens all across Iowa — from early intervention (as young as 18 months to 2 years) through the teen years. The earlier you start, the bigger the impact, but it's never too late to make meaningful progress.
Yes, a formal autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis is typically required for insurance to cover ABA therapy. If your child doesn't have a diagnosis yet, that's okay — we'll help walk you through the process and connect you with diagnostic resources here in Iowa.
Every child is different. After an assessment, your BCBA recommends a plan that fits your child and your family. Plans typically range from 10 to 40 hours per week, and we build around your schedule — after school, mornings, weekends, whatever works.
Sessions are play-based and built around your child's interests. A trained Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) works one-on-one with your child at home, practicing real skills like communication, social interaction, and daily living — all in an environment they're comfortable in.
Nope. That's the whole point of in-home therapy — we work with what you've got. We bring any materials we need, and your child learns skills in the exact setting where they'll actually use them.
We're currently in-network with Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, and we work with other commercial plans like Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare — often out of network. Iowa Medicaid coverage is coming soon. Even if we're not in your plan's network, we can usually still help. Contact us and we'll check your coverage for free.
You're a key part of the team. You don't need to sit in on every session, but we encourage parent training so you can practice strategies between sessions. The more consistent everyone is, the faster your child progresses.
Very. We know Iowa families are busy. We offer mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Your BCBA works with you to find a schedule that fits around school, activities, and family life.
All therapy is supervised by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) with master's degrees and national certification. Our Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) complete rigorous training and maintain credentials through ongoing education. Every member of our team is a licensed professional.
All of Iowa. We're based in Cedar Rapids, but since we come to you, location doesn't limit us. We have therapists across the state — Des Moines, Iowa City, Quad Cities, Waterloo-Cedar Falls, and beyond. If you're in Iowa, we can help.
