Adolescent & Teen ABA

ABA isn't just for little kids. Adolescent and teen ABA meets your child where they are now — focusing on independence, real-world social skills, and the practical abilities that help a teen step toward a more confident, capable future.

What It Is

A closer look at adolescent & teen aba

Adolescent and teen ABA applies Applied Behavior Analysis to the goals that matter during the teenage years. As kids grow, the focus naturally shifts from early building blocks toward independence, social relationships, self-management, and preparing for adult life.

A BCBA builds an individualized, age-appropriate plan, and a Registered Behavior Technician delivers the one-on-one work. Goals might include daily-living and self-care skills, managing emotions and frustration, navigating friendships and social situations, building routines and responsibility, and working toward greater independence at home and in the community.

Crucially, therapy for teens is designed to be respectful and motivating for an older child. It's built around your teen's own interests, goals, and dignity — and because Tall Grass works in your home and community, the skills are practiced in the real settings where your teen actually lives their life.

What to Expect

How it actually works

Your BCBA starts by understanding your teen — their strengths, their challenges, and the goals you and your teen care about most. Wherever possible, your teen is part of that conversation, because buy-in matters at this age.

Sessions focus on practical, meaningful skills and are built around your teen's interests to keep them engaged. That might mean practicing a daily routine, working through social scenarios, building strategies for managing stress, or developing independence with everyday tasks — all reinforced in a way that respects your teen's maturity.

Because we work in your home and community, your teen practices these skills where they'll actually use them. Your BCBA tracks progress, keeps the goals relevant as your teen grows, and partners with you so the whole family can support the journey toward greater independence.

Getting Started

How Getting Started Works

From your first phone call to your child's first session — and every step after — here's exactly how it goes.

1

Talk to a BCBA

Call, text, or fill out the form. A real person picks up, and a BCBA calls you back for an honest conversation about your child — no scripts, no sales pitch.

2

In-Home Assessment

Your BCBA meets your child where they're comfortable — at home — to understand their strengths, their challenges, and what matters most to your family.

3

We Verify Your Insurance

We call your insurance, confirm your benefits, and tell you exactly what's covered before anything starts. Most Iowa families pay little or nothing. Zero surprises.

4

Therapy Starts at Home

We match your child with the therapist who's the right fit and build a plan around their goals. Sessions start in the comfort of your home, on your schedule.

5

Progress You Can See

Your BCBA tracks every goal and reviews the data with you regularly. You'll always know what's working, what's next, and how far your child has come.

6

We Stick With You

As your child grows, we adjust the plan, keep coaching you, and stay just a text away. This is a long-haul partnership — not a drop-off and goodbye.

FAQs

Questions About Adolescent & Teen ABA

Straight answers. If yours isn't here, just call or text us.

Not at all. ABA is effective across ages, and the goals simply evolve to match where your child is. For teens, that means focusing on independence, social skills, emotional regulation, and preparing for adulthood. If your adolescent has an autism diagnosis, it's worth a conversation with our team.

Goals are individualized, but common areas include daily-living and self-care skills, managing emotions and frustration, social and friendship skills, building routines and responsibility, and working toward independence at home and in the community. Your BCBA tailors the plan to what matters most for your teen and family.

It's individualized and usually more focused than the intensive schedules common for young children. After an assessment, your BCBA recommends a schedule that fits your teen's goals and their busy life of school and activities. We aim for an amount that's meaningful but realistic.

Yes. ABA is covered for eligible individuals by Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and other commercial insurers, with Iowa Medicaid coming soon. Coverage is based on medical necessity, not age. We'll verify your benefits before starting.
